Is an internship required in this program? top
Yes, you will be required to complete an internship in the Phenix City area in grades P-3 grades and 4-6 grades. This is a full-time internship completed during either fall or spring semesters.

How do I determine how my credits from other institutions transfer to Troy University? top
Undergraduate applicants may request an unofficial evaluation of their transfer credits before or at the point of their first registration. An official evaluation of transfer credits will be completed upon receipt of all official transcripts.

Graduate students may transfer six hours of appropriate credit from a completed graduate degree. Twelve hours of graduate credit may be transferred from an uncompleted degree. Requests for transfer credit must be accompanied by a) a Petition for Transfer of Graduate Credit form; b) a copy of the official transcript showing the course taken; and c) a course description taken from the college catalog where the course was taken.

Credit previously used for educational certification is not eligible for transfer into a degree program leading to certification.

What else to I need to do after I have applied to the Alternative-A program? top
1. Take the Alabama Perspective Teachers Test (APTTP),
2. Take the Millers Analogy Test (MAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
3. Complete at least 150 hours of observation
4. Take the Praxis certification exam(s)
5. Apply and be accepted into the Teachers Education Program (TEP)
6. Complete all prerequisites
7. Complete the program requirements.

What are the admission requirements for the Alternative-A Masters in Elementary Education Program? top
1. Bachelors degree from a Regional Accredited College or University.

2. Undergraduate graduating grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

3. Meet the Alabama Highly Qualified Teacher requirements based on the No Child Left Behind mandate. You must have 12 semester hours in each area of Math (college algebra and above), Science, Social Science and Language Arts. You will be required to take prerequisite classes if these courses are not listed on your official transcripts.

4. Complete Troy University graduate admission requirements.

5. Have your transcripts evaluated for the program.

How do I apply to the Alternative-A Elementary Education program? top
You may apply online at http://phenix.troy.edu or come into the Admissions Office.

A $50 non-refundable application fee applies. You will need to send official transcripts from each university attended to the Admissions Office along with a letter of recommendation. Once this is completed, your transcripts will be evaluated for the program requirements.
